Throw A “Super” Bowl Party

Will it be the New Orleans Saints or the Indianapolis Colts?  No matter which team has your allegiance, you can make “Super Bowl Sunday” a great event.

Start by sending invitations on small plastic footballs with the party details written on them.  You might want to use inflatable footballs for mailing.  Instruct your guests to dress in their favorite team colors or maybe go as far as to dress as a player or cheerleader.

Set up a snack bar to include popcorn, peanuts, nachos and candy bars. On your buffet, serve chili dogs, sliders and hot wings with assorted dips and chips.  Serve your chips in football helmets representing each team that rest on kicking stands.  Serve your beverages in either sports bottles or plastic cups imprinted with “Super Bowl XLIV”.  These make great party favors for your guests to take home.  Have football shaped cookies out for a sweet sensation. My favorite source is The Cookie Princess. Check out her cookies at www.cookieprincess.com.  Drape the table with green felt material using white tape to mark off yard lines to represent a playing field or go to your local hardware store and buy a piece of very inexpensive green indoor/outdoor carpet resembling turf to lay on top of your table.  Go the “extra yard” and display as your centerpiece, a handcrafted replica of your favorite team’s football stadiums.  These can be purchased online at www.stadiumreplica.com.

You can purchase super bowl, saints or colts paper goods and other décor at www.windycitynovelties.com or www.partyoptions.net.  Wrap napkins with ribbon in the two team colors that have football trading cards glued to them. Other décor might include posters, banners, pennants and stand-ups of a few of the team’s key players.

Provide your guests with a football pot with winners at the end of each quarter.  During half-time, play football trivia or history of the super bowl trivia or, weather permitting, go outside and have a “longest punt” contest.  Prizes might include different types of team memorabilia or tickets to an upcoming Sports Event.

If you happen to be a Saint’s fan, check out the song “Black and Gold” at www.mojeauxband.com specifically written for the Saints football team by this band. I saw this band in New Orleans a few weeks ago and they are, without a doubt, one of the best bands I’ve every heard.

Now, if all this sounds too exhausting, call About Last Night…Event Planning and we will handle all these and other details for you so you can “feel like a guest at your own event.”
